Apsel's wolf problem is a side-quest in the prologue of the game.
Quick Walkthrough[]
- Talk to Apsel near his workshop in Easthaven.
- Enter his workshop and kill the wolf.
- Report back to Apsel.
Walkthrough[]
Apsel can be found next to Apsel's workshop on the left side of the Easthaven outdoors map. When you talk to him, he asks you to kill a winter wolf that has entered his workshop.
Walk to the workshop's door and click on it, to find out that it is locked. (It has a "lock difficulty" of 25, although the game does not tell you this). You can open it using one of the following ways:
- Open Locks (thieving skill):
If you have a Thief in your party with at least 25 points in the Open Locks skill, that character can easily open the lock using the "Thieving" button on their toolbar. If the character is only a few points short in that skill, they will have a chance at succeeding. (Just retry until you do.) - Bashing (STR-based skill):
If you have a character in your party with a STR score of at least 18/01 (warriors) or 19 (other classes), they can break down the door using the "Weapon attack" button on their toolbar. A character with 18 STR will have a chance at succeeding. - Knock (arcane spell, level 2):
This spell can be cast against the door to force it to open. There is no scroll for this spell in the prologue of the game, but a Wizard or Sorcerer can select it on level-up when they reach character level 2. (Doing so probably only makes sense when you don't have a Thief in the party.)
Once you've unlocked the door (and have made sure that your party is properly equipped with weapons and armor from Pomab's Emporium), open the door and take your party inside the workshop.
The wolf that Apsel told you about, immediately attacks you. It has only 12 HP, so it should go down quickly if all party member attack it. (Ranged weapons are particularly effective, as they allow you to kill the wolf before it even reaches you). Defeating the wolf gives you 120 kill XP.
Alternatively, if you have a ranger (other than archers) in your party, you can use the Charm Animal ability on the wolf, which will cause it to leave peacefully, but without receiving the kill XP.
Go back outdoors, and talk to Apsel again. He thanks you, and rewards you with 1200 exp, 25 , and Apsel's Dagger.
