- For the city of the same name, see Baldur's Gate (location).
Baldur's Gate is a role-playing video game that uses the same engine and roughly the same ruleset as Icewind Dale.
Description[]
Baldur's Gate was the first game to use the Infinity Engine.
It is set in and around the city of Baldur's Gate on the Sword Coast, far to the south of the Icewind Dale region.
Unlike in the Icewind Dale games, the player doesn't roll a whole party of adventurers at character creation. Instead, the game centers around a single protagonist (rolled by the player) whose personal backstory is largely predefined and strongly tied to the game's plot. You can, however, meet NPCs in the game world who are willing to join your party.
The game is also more focused on story and exploration, rather than endless combat, compared to Icewind Dale.
