A Bastard Sword is one of the largest swords capable of being wielded in one hand. Weapon and general stores carry bastard swords for around 28-37.
Description[]
“ | Also known as the hand-and-a-half sword, the bastard sword derives its name from the fact that it is halfway between the two-handed sword and the long sword. The bastard sword has a double-edged blade and a long grip, which can accommodate both hands if preferred. The overall length of the bastard sword ranges between four feet and four feet ten inches. | ” |
Properties[]
A standard bastard sword deals a base 2d4 (2-8) slashing damage, has a speed factor of 8, and a minimum strength requirement of 11EE only.
Although slower, heavier, more expensive, and with a higher strength requirementEE only than the similar Long Sword, bastard swords deal slightly higher damage. However, bastard swords are faster, lighter, cheaper, and require less strengthEE only than a Two-Handed Sword, while dealing slightly less damage. Compared to a two-handed sword, bastard swords also benefit from being wielded in one hand, allowing the use of a shield (or dual-wieldingEE only). The downside to this is the reduced range, forcing the user to get up close to their target.
