Chain Mail (originally Chainmail Armor) is a medium weight body armor which acts as a direct upgrade to Studded Leather Armor. Weapon and general stores carry chain mail for around 84-112.

Chain mail is made of interlocking metal rings. It is always worn over a layer of padded fabric or soft leather to prevent chafing and lessen the impact of blows.

Properties

Chain mail provides a base armor class of 5, with a bonus of -2 AC vs slashing damage, but a penalty of +2 AC vs crushing damage. Requires a minimum strength of 8 to equip^{EE only}.

Chain mail is 15 lbs. heavier, significantly more expensive, and requires more strength^{EE only} than Studded Leather Armor, but for bards it is the most protective standard armor that can be worn, however doing so disables their ability to pick pockets, and like any other body armor it will disable spellcasting until removed.
