Death Ward is a level 4 spell from the Priest Scroll in Icewind Dale, which was added in the Enhanced Edition.
Description[]
“ | This spell protects the target from all forms of death magic for the duration of the spell. This includes, but is not limited to, Disintegrate; Power Word, Kill; Death Spell; and Finger of Death. | ” |
Notes[]
- Although name and description already exist in the game files of the original Icewind Dale, the spell itself was only implemented in the Enhanced Edition.
Lore[]
- ↑ Death Ward actually is no divine spell, regarding the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition ruleset, which Icewind Dale is based on, neither a basic arcane spell from the Player's Handbook. It was added by a supplementary sourcebook, The Complete Book of Necromancers, as a level 9 arcane spell, that – more importantly – belongs to the category of forbidden black necromancy.
As an arcane spell, it is not assigned to a priest sphere – originally, as well as in this game.
Interestingly, the arcane variant was not implemented.
