Icewind Dale Wiki

Exploring the Temple of the Forgotten God is a step of the main quest in chapter 1 of Icewind Dale.

Quick walkthrough[]

  1. Make your way to level 3 of the Temple of the Forgotten God, and walk into the center of that room.
  2. Pick up the Vial of mysterious liquid there. (optional, for higher reward)

Walkthrough[]

You can travel to the Temple of the Forgotten God via the world map.[1]

Make your way through the first two levels of the temple, which provide much combat and loot – see Temple of the Forgotten God#Maps, and the articles linked from there, for details.

Throughout the complex, you can see evidence (e.g. corpses) of a recent attack on the temple. The surviving inhabitants assume you are in leage with those attackers, and there is no way to convince them otherwise, so you have to fight through them.

The third and last level (the "inner sanctum") has no NPCs, just more corpses. The pedestal that apparently held the Heartstone Gem here is empty: Someone else already took it. If you walk into the middle of this room, the quest journal updates accordingly.[2]

Optionally, you can also pick up the Vial of mysterious liquid from the "Dead Talonite Priest" corpse. (This will give you a higher reward in the next step.)

Since the Heartstone Gem is lost and there is nothing else to learn here, return to Kuldahar:

Important Events
We penetrated the inner sanctum of the Temple of the Forgotten God, only to find that someone had gotten there before us. The pedestal that, presumably, had once held the artifact was empty. Bodies lay strewn about the chamber, indicating that the acolytes and their verbeeg guardians had put up a fight in the defense of the gem. Among the bodies was the corpse of a man garbed in the vestments of a priest of Talona. It is difficult to say what part he might have played in the battle or the resulting theft. Perhaps we should return to Arundel and see what sense he can make of all this.

Footnotes[]

  1. Only after Arundel has told you about it.
  2. Without this, the main quest does not progress.
