A Flail is a weapon comprised of a spiked head attached to a wooden shaft by a chain, wielded in one hand and used for bludgeoning. Weapon and general stores carry flails for around 16-22gp.

Description[]

The flail is a sturdy wooden handle attached to an iron rod, a wooden rod with spikes, or a spiked iron ball. Between the handle and its implement is either a hinge or chain link. The weapon was originally used as a tool for threshing grain.

Properties[]

A standard flail deals a base 1d6+1 (2-7) crushing damage, has a speed factor of 7, and a minimum strength requirement of 13EE only.

Flails are identical to Maces in both damage and speed, but are about double the weight and cost, and require a higher minimum strength to wieldEE only. Compared to the Morning Star, flails deal slightly less damage, are heavier, are slightly more expensive, and again require more strengthEE only. Flails are superior to War Hammers in damage, but are slower, heavier, more expensive, and have a higher strength requirementEE only. This weapon is wielded in one hand.
