Gareth is a slave in Wyrm's Tooth in the Icewind Dale game.

He stands in the basement library of the Aquatic Museum, at the right end of the room.
Background[]
He is one of the human slaves who have been held captive by the frost salamanders of the Aquatic Museum.
Recently, the slaves mounted a revolt (see Vera's article for details), and Gareth is one of the ones who survived and made it to the museum's basement library.
In the library, they are safe for now (because it is too warm for the salamanders to enter) – but are also stuck, and low on supplies.
Interaction[]
You can talk to him. He tells you about his situation, and asks you to get a key which would let them escape the glacier, which is part of the "good path" of the side-quest:
