A Longbow (originally Long Bow) is one of the two larger bow types, and is used to fire missiles at a target. Weapon and general stores have longbows available for around 84-112gp.

Description[]

The long bow is similar to the short bow, except that the staff is about as high as the archer is, usually 6 to 6.5 feet. It has two advantages over the short bow: better range and hence, it is much more accurate.

Properties[]

A standard longbow paired with standard arrows deals a base 1d6 (1-6) missile damage, has a -1 THAC0 (accuracy) bonus, a speed factor of 7, a boosted base APR of 2, and a minimum strength requirement of 12.

Like other ammunition launching weapons, bows require an ammunition to function. In the case of the longbow, Arrows must be purchased or found in order for the weapon to fire.

Longbows possess better accuracy than their Shortbow counterparts, but are slightly heavier, slower, much more expensive, and require greater strength to wield. Compared to a Composite Longbow, longbows deal less damage, but also weigh less, and require less strength to wield.

Bows take two hands to wield, preventing the use of a shield.

As with other conventional ammunition such as Bullets and Bolts, every attack made with a longbow uses one arrow, and spent arrows cannot be recovered.

Bows are the most common ranged weapon used by enemies throughout the game, allowing for easy acquisition of free arrows on a regular basis.
