Icewind Dale Wiki

Negotiate with a Bone Dancer is a pair of optional dialogue quests available when talking with Mytos.

Location[]

Both of the conversation paths take place talking to Mytos (1575, 750), who is found inside Kresselack's Tomb, Level 1 inside the Vale of Shadows.

Choose a diplomatic path[]

Description[]

This discussion is based around debating the acceptability of necromancy and the undead. It is only available if there is a Cleric or Paladin as the party leader, regardless of who is actually seen by Mytos.

Walkthrough[]

Dialogue path
Greetings. I am Bone Dancer Mytos. I must commend you on your efforts to enter here. Your perseverance is remarkable, to say the least. Now tell me, why are you here?
I would like to ask you some questions.

What questions?

Who are you again?

I am Bone Dancer Mytos, priest of Myrkul.

What is a bone dancer?

A Bone Dancer is a servant of Myrkul. It is our duty to raise guardian dead to protect places of importance to the faith. It is I who raised the guardians of this tomb.

So you are responsible for these vile creatures?

Vile? I would hardly call them that. These guardians have been here for centuries and have harmed no one. If you had not entered here, they would not have attempted to harm you.

Undead are vile regardless of their actions. They are the product of the dark art of necromancy.

I see... Let me ask you this. Is it not true that healing, the raising of the dead, and resurrection are necromantic as well?

The healing arts are indeed necromantic in nature. However, necromancy crosses the line of decency and corrupts the art. It is vile, as are its creations.
Being undead myself, I can't help but find your opinion to be close-minded, prejudicial, and personally insulting.
Ending options

2: I meant nothing personal. I was simply expressing my opinion.

Very well, I will take no offense to your words. Shall we continue our conversation?

Or

3: As a [cleric/paladin], I can afford no other view. I meant nothing personal.
Yes... Matters of faith often cause such differences of opinion. I think it would be in our best interest to end this discussion now.

Result[]

Upon giving either of the responses, the party is rewarded with 3225 experience.

If the last response given was "2: I meant nothing personal. I was simply expressing my opinion", then Mytos will happily continue the conversation as if starting afresh.

If the "3: As a [Cleric/Paladin], I can afford no other view. I meant nothing personal.” response was given then your only available choice will be to attempt to leave, which will limit your conversational choices.

Attempt to reason with Mytos[]

Description[]

This path is based around attempting to negotiate your entry to the tomb for the purpose of conducting an investigation.

Walkthrough[]

Dialogue Path from the start.
Greetings. I am Bone Dancer Mytos. I must commend you on your efforts to enter here. Your perseverance is remarkable, to say the least. Now tell me, why are you here?
I have nothing to say to you at this time. Farewell.

No. You may not leave here until you have surrendered the keys that you have in your possession.

First I must investigate this tomb. Will you allow this?

No. It is forbidden. As a matter of fact, I have spent too much talking with you and neglecting my duty. I must demand that you surrender the keys in your possession and leave here. I will not ask again.

Mytos, I am trying to be reasonable here. I cannot in good conscience leave until I have investigated this tomb fully. Can we come to some understanding?
No, we cannot. You have your duty, and I have mine. This conflict was inevitable... Guardians. To arms!

This discussion results in the party being awarded 3225 experience.

Reaching the end of this path will end the conversation and cause Mytos to become hostile, placing the party in combat.

Advice[]

  • Prepare for combat before attempting these quests. The combat is inevitable.
  • If you have the ability (that is to say, if you have a Cleric/Paladin), do Choose a diplomatic path first, as Attempt to reason with Mytos will end the conversation.
  • Similar to above, if you plan to do "3 - As a [Cleric/Paladin], I can afford no other view. I meant nothing personal.” for the diplomatic path, but still want to explore the dialogue options regarding the Myrkul faith, you'll need to explore those before doing the quest.
