Reaching Kuldahar is a step of the main quest in the prologue of Icewind Dale.

  1. Take the east exit on the Kuldahar Pass map.

Walkthrough[]

Having survived the avalanche at Kuldahar Pass, the party finds themselves at the west end of the Kuldahar Pass map.

The Hermit quickly approaches the party and initiates conversation. If you ask about the way to Kuldahar, he tells you it is to the east.

Before you continue, ready yourself for prolonged battle, because this whole area is swarming with goblins that attack on sight. Some of them act in groups; advance carefully to avoid having to fight multiple groups at once.

The most direct path to Kuldahar is to follow the trail along the bottom of the Kuldahar Pass map all the way to the right, and over the bridge: Clicking on the ground near the right edge of the map lets you fast-travel to Kuldahar via the world map.

However, if you are not in a hurry, you can first explore the Kuldahar Pass area and its side-areas for more combat, loot, and two small side-quests. (See Kuldahar Pass​►​Maps, and the articles linked from there, for details). Of course, you can also come back for that content later.

When you are ready to enter the town of Kuldahar, proceed with:

Important Events
We met a strange hermit in the valley at the mouth of Kuldahar Pass. He claimed to have witnessed the avalanche that wiped out the rest of the expedition from Easthaven and nearly killed us as well. He told us, somewhat reluctantly, that the town of Kuldahar lies to the east of the valley, just beyond an old mill.
