Revered Brother Poquelin – an evil being pretending to be a priest of Ilmater – is the main antagonist of the Icewind Dale game.
Location[]
He stands in the middle of the Ascension Cave of Lower Dorn's Deep.
Background[]
His form appears human, clothed in white robes with blood-stained sleeves.
People have seen him travelling the Spine of the World, passing himself off as a high-ranking priest of the good god Ilmater.
At the same time, he has made Lower Dorn's Deep his base of operations, and raised a small army of various creatures under the command of his six lieutenants.
This has been the root cause of the disturbances in the pass that have been plaguing Kuldahar and surroundings. (His ancient enemy Yxunomei following him to the region and setting up her own base in Dragon's Eye, aggravated the disturbances.)
Towards his underlings, he espouses a twisted version of the Ilmateri faith: Striving to cause suffering, rather than to share and alleviate it.
an avatar of the devil Belhifet, intent on opening a portal to hell and conquering this part of Faerûn with an army of fiends.
See the Belhifet article for more details.
Interaction[]
Your party reaches Poquelin's cave at the end of chapter 6a, during the main quest step:
He initiates conversation, vaguely alludes to what he is, and reveals a bit about his endeavor and some previously unexplained things you experienced on your journey.
Combat inevitably follows. However, you cannot kill him – instead, when his hit points get low, he teleports away. This triggers the cut-scene that starts chapter 6b, the endgame.
Combat guide[]
Poquelin has the power to control creatures of the region, and unleashes many upon you. They arrive from five different tunnels in the Ascension Cave. He also rains down fiery storms on those attacking him up close. If allowed to cast, he unleashes Creeping Doom, a level 7 spell that summons insect swarms.
If you damage him quickly, this fight can be very short.
Common bug: cut-scene does not trigger |
---|
When Brother Poquelin is very low in hit points, this should normally trigger a cut-scene and a teleportation. Some combat effects can block this cut-scene and so Poquelin will become technically impossible to kill. At this point, he is no longer a threat and creatures will cease to arrive: he will only do a simple melee attack. Solution: Simply exit the lair. This automatically triggers the normal cut-scene and teleportation (tested with beta patch 2.6.5). Spells that successfully destroy his body, such as Disintegration, should also trigger the cut-scene. |
