Shield is a level 1 Arcane spell from the Evocation school, that sets the caster's Armor Class to 4 and provides bonuses against ranged attacks.

Description[]

When this spell is cast, an invisible barrier comes into being in front of the wizard. It sets the caster's Armor Class to 4 against melee weapons (2 against missile weapons) and makes the wizard immune to any magical missiles cast at him/her.

Effects[]

This spell grants the caster a base Armor Class of 4 against melee attacks, an additional -2 AC bonus against missile attacks, and immunity to the Arcane spells Magic Missile and Mordenkainen's Force Missiles, all for 5 rounds per level of the caster.

  • As a level 1 spell, Mages and Sorcerers are able to select this spell as one of their starting spells during character generation

  • At levels 3, 5, and 7, Sorcerers are able to select an additional level 1 arcane spell to add to their known spells
