The North is the common name for the northwest part of Faerûn.
Geography[]
The North is a harsh and untamed region.
Its most distinctive feature is the Spine of the World mountain range, which runs from the Sword Coast in the West all the way to the Anauroch desert in the East.
North of the Spine of the World, the continent ends as it meets the Sea of Moving Ice.
Places of interest[]
North of the Spine[]
A few places of interest lie between the Spine of the World and the Sea of Moving Ice. These include:
- The Icewind Dale region, which contains the Ten Towns.
- The Reghed Glacier.
- The Gloomfrost, an isolated magical cavern.
In the Spine[]
While the Spine of the World is frozen and inhospitable, it does contain some notable places of interest, such as the town of Kuldahar.
South of the Spine[]
How far south of the Spine of the World "the North" extends, is not well defined.
The Sword Coast cities of Luskan and Neverwinter are typically counted as part of the North; sometimes also Waterdeep and the High Forest.
