Walkthrough[]
Good path[]
To the left of the town square in Easthaven, near the boats on the snow, stands Jhonen – a fisherman ruminating about songs he hears in his dreams. Talk to him to learn that he's been having persistent dreams of a woman on the lake who sings but never talks, and that these dreams are eating away at him.
Find Elisia in the bottom-left corner of the Easthaven outdoors map (her tooltip reads "Strange Blue-Skinned Woman").
It's best to speak to Elisia using a bard party member, because then you can respond to her opening line by "answering her song with another", for which you get an extra 1200 exp. (This option is no longer available after you've told her about Jhonen.)
Then, mention Jhonen's name to Elisia.[1] She tells you the story of how she was in love with one of Jhonen's ancestors, and has been trying to contact Jhonen in his dreams because she wants to return his ancestor's sword to him but cannot physically meet him. She asks you to bring the sword to Jhonen.
You can respond to her request in one of three ways:
- Bards only: Question whether her gift will harm Jhonen, and then ask her to teach you her song so that you can judge her intentions from it. For this, you get an extra 1200 exp.
- Bards only: Question whether her gift will harm Jhonen, and then demand a "physical token of her intentions." She gives you Elisia's Token of Faith (an item with no further use).
- Accept the sword without question. (This is the only available option if your speaking party member is not a bard.)
In all three cases, you get the quest item Shattered Blade of Aihonen. Return to Jhonen with it, and let him know that his dreams have been caused by the a sea spirit.
If you want to continue following the good-aligned path of the quest, tell Jhonen that Elisia loves him and wants him to have the sword. You lose the sword (but that's not a problem, see #Aftermath below), and get 1200 exp.
Return to Elisia and tell her that you delivered the sword to Jhonen. She gives you 1 Pearl, and you get 1200 exp.
All in all, this means that a party with a Bard can get 4800 exp from the good path of the quest, whereas parties without a bard can only get 2400 exp.
Evil alternative: Driving Jhonen away[]
If you follow the "good path" described above up to the point where you return to Jhonen with the sword, you can choose to not tell him about the sword, and instead convince him that Elisia intends to lure him to his death and that he will only be free of her curse if he leaves town and gives you all his possessions.
This way, you keep the Shattered Blade of Aihonen (which is of no use to you), receive 1200 exp, and get Jhonen's belongings:
You can return to Elisia and lie to her that you delivered the sword to Jhonen. She believes you, and gives you 1 Pearl, but you get no exp for this.
Evil alternative: Driving Elisia away[]
Alternatively, if you haven't told Elisia about Jhonen yet, you can simply threaten her to leave, and she disappears. If you then tell Jhonen that he was plagued by a sea spirit and you drove her away, you get 1200 exp and he gives you:
Aftermath[]
If you gave the Shattered Blade of Aihonen to Jhonen ("good path"), then
you can get the Restored Blade of Aihonen +5 in chapter 6b of the game by completing the interaction:
- Receiving the Restored Blade of Aihonen (280,000 exp + sword)
If you then import your party into the Heart of Winter expansion with the restored blade in your inventory, you will encounter an opportunity to further upgrade it late in the expansion:
- Upgrading the Blade of Aihonen
If, on the other hand, you kept the Shattered Blade of Aihonen ("evil path"), then you will not be able to do anything with it.
Notes & references[]
- ↑ This option only comes up if you've talked to Jhonen to the point where he tells you that the dreams are "eating at him".
